Perhaps I’m suffering from new mom epiphanies, but the true test of an econo-car priced in the $15k – $16k range is when you try to cram a car seat in the back. The 2009 Scion xD took a bit of wrangling, but alas the little guy and I squeezed in and were off for a tidy afternoon spin. Once loaded, we were comfortable though I am one to sit far up on the seat, race car driving style.
With a light touch to the accelerator I felt xD come to life. The xD has 128 hp giving it considerable pep for its small package. However, the response and steering felt more haphazard than satisfying as xD jutted all over the road. Not sure I achieved the promised 27/33 mpg. I do have a soft spot for sporty hatchbacks, making this a step up for Scion in my book.
