Outside changeability is in the air. It’s hot, it’s cold, it’s rainy, it’s sunny. For some reason, people and plans seem more unreliable when the weather forecast is all over the map. While plans and forecasts aren’t dependable, a visit to PINTA is. The second annual Modern and Contemporary Latin American Artfair was held this weekend at the Metropolitan Pavilion this weekend in New York City. For those skipping the grand North American art fair Miami Basel, PINTA was a morsel of the madness with galleries from Lima to La Habana showing work from their stable of artists. Altogether 50 art galleries from around the Latin diaspora participated, making for a perfectly cozy way to peer in at the local arts. I spent Sunday afternoon strolling the aisles.
Cuban artist Rene Francisco Rodriguez caught my eye, who was represented by PanAmerican Art Projects out of Miami. Rodridguez impresses with process, using oil pastel tubes to painstakingly create skies and bodies.
