Dear George Jetson, We wish you were here to test drive the new Terrafugia model, the Transition Roadable Aircraft –the flying car. Of course it comes from the minds of MIT-trained aeronautical engineers, where all the coolest future-generation tech seems to start from dancing holograms to visionary vehicle powers.
Part plane, part car, and a new hybrid is born. It operates on the ground with foldable its wings and drive on any surface road with a modern personal airplane platform. On the runway, the wings extend and the aircraft is ready for take-off. Wing folding is controlled by a mechanism in the cockpit. It’s maiden voyage was March 5, 2009 at Plattsburgh International Airport, Plattsburgh, NY. If the car passes safety certication, customers will be able to buy it in 2011 from this privately held company. Changing FAA regulations in the Light Sport Aircraft category, enabled the development of the Transition.
We’ll see you on the skyway, Mr. Jetson.
