Car dealers could learn a thing or two from the Neiman Marcus selling philosophy. Jaguar’s 2010 XJL Neiman Marcus Supercharged Edition sold out all 50 vehicles in 4 hours and 4 minutes at a cool $105,000 each.  The coveted Neiman Marcus Christmas book apparently has the power to reach deep into consumer psyche when it opened the phone lines at high noon, touting Celestial Black metallic paint exterior and a custom butter-soft navy and ivory leather interior with Zebrano matte wood accents and a set of navy luggage for the ride.

While the car isn’t actually shipping out just yet, these reservations will be among the first to own the lanky new XJ, which isn’t due in dealerships until the year’s end. The Neiman Marcus Edition XJL also has 20″ double-10 spoke polished alloy wheels, illuminated tread plates and an interior plate that reads “Neiman Marcus 1 of 50.”

The esteemed  Neiman Marcus holiday catalog celebrates it’s 50th year this season. In the 1959, a Black Angus steer with a rolling roast-beef cart was featured in the catalog. Then there’s a $25,000 electric car in the shape of a cupcake.

A $250,000 “his and hers” two-seater Icon aircraft, which comes with pilot training for two, is the top shelf item in the 2009 catalog. In 2000, there was a $20 million submarine offered, a $10 million Zeppelin of 2004 and a $10 million stable of racehorses of 2008.

The XJL  is no fantasy — the lines stay open for additional back up orders in the case that buyers don’t pony up.
