This Volkswagen R32 is a randy race car, but probably not the best choice when it comes to driving with a gas-minded conscious. R32 might be a little guy, but it’s one with considerable pep shifting in .2 second. R32 nabs 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway — better than a Toureg, but not quite a Prius. That’s the slippery down-slide of the quintessential Euro hatchback pocket rocket. But there are ways to cut corners even in this young buck.
In fact, there’s more you can do to save gas besides turnover you SUV lease and drive a manual transmission. I like these tips for saving gas. I’ve added a few of my own.
1. No Drag Racing at the Light. Slower, smoother, and gentle starts save gas.
2. Cruise and Coast at a lower speed — like 40 mph.
3. Ride your bike. Walk.
4. Don’t ride on E. Your tank is being taxed, using more power.
5. If you must ride for pleasure, try after 2 a.m. Avoid LA and all stand still suburban cities at all costs.
*** Note: this writer doesn’t always practice what she preaches, particularly in a nifty bunny like the R32.
